Implant Restorations Q & A

What are Implant Restorations?

Implant Restorations are a combination of artificial roots and teeth that are surgically implanted in the upper or lower jaw bone. Each dental implant restoration is customized to perfectly match the natural teeth of each patient. Implant Restorations can fill the gaps of lost teeth, support the natural teeth next to it, and restore smiling faces. This type of tooth replacement is strong, durable, and will typically last for a patient's lifetime with only occasional tightening or crown replacement.

Why are Implant Restorations needed?

There are many situations in which dental implants are used today, including:

  • Helping natural teeth: Implanting restricts shifting and weakening of natural teeth
  • Resolving joint pain or bite issues
  • Recapturing your confident smile

Many people who are missing some or all of their teeth will develop chewing issues, speech issues, and digestion problems. Dental implants can prevent all of these things by allowing the patient to function in the same way that they would if their natural teeth were intact.

What is the process of getting Implant Restorations?

Dental implants require several different visits to the Front Royal Dental Care offices. First, X-rays and molds are created. The X-rays and molds allow the dentist to evaluate the bone density, amount of gum tissue, and amount of space available in the mouth. This information helps the dentist and patient decide whether dental implants are the best option.

Next, the patient will have the dental implants surgically placed in the jaw bone. After that appointment, it can take as much as 6 months for full healing to occur. A second surgery may then be needed to install the post that will hold the replacement tooth in place. However, with some implants both post and anchor are placed during the same surgery.

Once the mouth is fully healed, the artificial teeth are fitted to the implant post. Some patients require several fittings, so the fitting may take 1-2 months.
